Urgent Volunteer Need

Current Volunteer Needs
No-Cost Portrait Day -December 10, 2011
9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

ALL VOLUNTEER POSITIONS HAVE BEEN FILLED

(Information Updated - Thursday, December 8, 2011)

On December 10, 2010 we will be coordinating a no-cost portrait event to help those in need. This event will be held in Overland Park, Kansas to assist the often forgotten about families in Johnson County who are living at or below the poverty level. Statistics show that approximately 1 in 8 individuals in Johnson County is living at or below the poverty level. This is our chance to make the holidays brighter for these families.

Events like this are not possible without the gracious assistance of a team of volunteers. This is a great way to give back to the community using your talents, and have a ton of fun at the same time!

The Basics:

  • We will be providing portraits for between 25 and 50 families from the community. (Approximately 150 people total.) The final numbers depend on the number of photographers willing to assist us. Families are signing up in advance for specific session times.
  • There will be hair and makeup volunteers on site to do touch ups and make the experience richer for the families.
  • We will have several studio “areas” set up on event day. Photographers will create portraits for families during 30 minute portrait sessions throughout the day. As photographers Finish with a session, their images will be copied from their memory cards to GBTTL’s computer.
  • GBTTL will  post-process the photos from each session and provide each family with a free 8x10 print, as well as numerous images from their session on DVD. Families will pick up their print and DVD in Overland Park beginning December 19. They will also receive a reproduction release allowing them to have prints made at any economical local or online lab of their choice.
  • Space for this event is graciously being provided by Atonement Lutheran Church at 9948 Metcalf. Atonement and Thrivent Financial are also providing financial support for this event.
  • Volunteers do not need to be available all day, but for the sake of logistics, we ask that you be available for at least 4 hours. Volunteers that can come for the better part of the day are most appreciated! Lunch will be available on-site for volunteers.

Here Is A Great Opportunity To Help Those In Need!

If you are a photographer, hair or makeup professional, or just someone who loves to help those in need, we would love to have you join us as a volunteer at our Giving Back Through The Lens event this year. The event will be held December 10, 2011, from 9 AM to 3 PM in Overland Park, Kansas. (Where 1 in 8 people are currently living at or below the poverty level.)

We can use volunteers at all skill levels. You can show up, create portraits for families for a few hours, and then take off. You do not have to edit your own images or deal with printing for the families. We handle all of that on the back end. We know it is the busy season for many photographers, so we try to keep options open for those that wish to participate but don’t have a ton of free time. You are also welcome to stay all day if you can. We always have a blast doing these events.

We will be creating portraits for 50 families who are living at or below the poverty level and would never be able to pay for portrait photography (not even at Sears or Wal-Mart). This is our chance to restore their dignity and build their self-esteem, while providing lasting memories. There will even be hair and makeup volunteers on-hand to make the sessions extra special for these families.

To sign up as a volunteer for this upcoming event, please follow the link below. If you have any questions or need more information, please use the contact link on our site to get in touch with us.

Thanks!

It Melted Our Hearts

We received a lovely thank you letter in the mail a while back from one of the families who participated in our December 4, 2010 GBTTL event. It melted our hearts and we want to share it with you. This my friends is what GBTTL is all about.

“I just wanted to say how much we enjoyed the picture taking session. My girls loved getting their hair curled, they didn’t want to wash their hair the next day because they felt so pretty with the curls. I also enjoyed having my hair straightened and the makeup before the pictures.

Everyone was so nice and so patient. They took so many different poses and it was really fun. We have not had our family picture taken since 2003. We have 3 more children since then so it was so wonderful to finally be able to have a family picture with all of us again, and you made us feel so glamorous for the day.

Thank you!”
